Children living in the remote valley of Rok, Solukhumbu in earthquake-ravaged Nepal, are for the third straight year starting school without a safe, warm place to learn. Our dedicated friends at the dZi Foundation are working so hard to build a secure, sustainable school, but resources are scarce and building supplies are expensive in this rugged region. Pete and Kim Erskine of Mexicali Blues have made the long trek to reach this valley on foot and will never forget the wonderful welcome they received. In an effort to give back to this wonderful community, Mexicali Blues World of Goods program is matching all gifts until dZi reaches its $50,000 goal.
Now it’s time for some really fun math! We are adding up our efforts, doubling the impact of every gift, and multiplying the good in this world. So far, the Mexicali Tribe has donated $4,103, and with the #MexicaliMatch, dZi is now $8,206 closer to building the Janajagriti school!
The students of Rok, Solukhumbu live a day’s walk from the nearest road and a two-day walk from any kind of medical care. They are a resilient, self-reliant people, but almost a third of the structures in their community were destroyed by the 2015 earthquake. Their children have been without a school for years and the lack of a safe learning space can set a village back for generations.
Children grow so quickly in just one year. Let’s make sure this one is full of learning, laughter and the best lesson of all—that they are loved by people all over the world.
Help Mexicali Blues and the dZi Foundation rebuild the Janajagriti School twice as fast! Make your gift today, and we’ll match it.
UPDATE (12/20/2017): GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED!!! We’re building a school– thank YOU!
