#MEXICALIMATCH UPDATE: THANKS TO YOU, THESE KIDS HAVE A NEW SCHOOL!

Apr 18, 2018

Meet some of the happy kids who now are able to get their education in the earthquake-proof Himalaya Primary School that your contributions helped build! Working with the awesome dZi Foundation, we donated $25,000 through our World of Goods program to fund the construction of the school in Sotang, Solukhumbu, Nepal, which was completed last June!

At the end of 2017, we provided another $25,000 match for donations made to construct a second school, in Rok, Solukhumbu, Nepal. So far we have helped fundraise two separate schools to be constructed by dZi and the community members of the towns, and we have more projects with dZi in the works!

dZi works very closely with remote communities in Nepal that often don’t get a lot of tourism or aid from the government. They focus on sustainable projects (like teaching community members how to grow kitchen gardens, installing compostable toilets, and building schools!) which is why we really love working with them. Stay tuned for further news on how we and dZi will be joining forces again, and see how a percentage of every Mexicali Blues purchase will be used to help!

Want to know more about the building of the schools, and the remote mountainous area where it’s happening? Check out our travel diaries, from when Mexicali co-owners Kim and Pete with son Chauncey took the 4-day hike with some of our dZi friends to visit the construction site of the Himalaya school and meet the kids and community of Sotang.
