The 4th of July is one of our favorite holidays here at Mexicali Blues! The weather in Maine is always a bit indecisive, but the days of and around this Summer holiday are usually prime for being outside. BBQ’s, boat rides with family and friends, free outdoor concerts and, of course, fireworks are all part of an awesome and memorable celebration of our nation’s independence. If you’re lucky enough to be in the area this year, check out some of the best festivities around our stores. With locations in 5 unique towns across Maine, there is sure to be a celebration nearby! Remember, all of our stores are open on the 4th of July, so in case you’re in need of a new fireworks-inspired tie dye be sure to pick one up!
Raymond is located on beautiful lake Sebago, Maine’s second largest lake. Check out the action on the 4th in Naples, just a 15 minute drive from our Raymond location:
There are tons of great events in the Portland area on the 4th of July, but one of the best this year is sure to be the Patriotic Pops Concert performed by the Portland Symphony Orchestra. This concert starts at 7:40pm and is free and open to the public!(Portland Symphony Orchestra)
For fun earlier in the day, take the kids (or treat yourself!) to the Great American Ice Cream Fest from 3-6pm at the Eastern Promenade in the Lower Cutter Street Lot.
Celebrate near: Freeport (for more info visit FreeportMaine.com)
The town of Freeport kicks off the 4th of July with a Blueberry Pancake & Sausage Breakfast from 7-10am at the St. Jude Hall, and ends the evening with a series of FREE concerts in the L.L. Bean Discovery Park. This year, Freeport’s fireworks will be taking place on Saturday, July 7th, so if you can’t make it to any fun events Wednesday (or if you just haven’t had enough of your favorite holiday), make sure you check out the fireworks Saturday night!(L.L.Bean)
Heading further up the coast will take you to our Newcastle store, located on Route 1. After stopping in, take a detour down to Round Pond for the most epic parade of the day! The Round Pond Parade is known for it’s politically charged, humorous, and downright outrageous floats. The “tacky tourists” are a yearly sight not to be missed if you make the trek down the peninsula to check out this awesome display of opinion. If the mood strikes, individuals or floats may decide to participate up until the last minute the parade starts–just create a kooky sign and start marching! The parade begins at high noon!

Celebrate near: Bangor (for more info visit Bangor Daily News)
The newest addition to the Mexicali Blues family, our Bangor store is located in downtown Bangor. The Bangor-Brewer parade is the largest parade in Maine, so if you’re going to be in the area and love parades be sure to check this one out! This year there are over 1,000 people slated to participate.
The Bangor-Brewer parade starts at 11am on Acme Road in Brewer, and conveniently passes right by our downtown Bangor location!
Stand near our Bangor store for an awesome view of the parade while it travels down Main Street! (Facebook)
