We have stepped up our sustainability in a big way this December, adding solar panels to our flagship store on Route One in Newcastle! And just a few days after bringing the solar panels online, the panels are meeting the energy needs of the store and storing up additional reserves for our warehouse and headquarters down the road.
Big thanks to solar energy experts Revision Energy for a great install that’s already showing results. Topher Mallory, our head of operations, is already geeking out on the minute-by-minute power tracking these panels make possible. “It’s completely fascinating!” he says. “We’ve even created a portal where employees can see how Mexicali Blues is contributing to Newcastle’s green power grid in real time.”
Co-owner Kim Erskine loves that the installation happened so close to the winter solstice. “Sunlight is so precious in Maine this time of year, and I feel like we’re really making the most of it!”
“Environmental awareness is essential to this company’s mission,” says co-owner Pete Erskine adds. “We sell products made from sustainable, low-impact materials like hemp. We reduce, re-use and recycle. We support environmental organizations and causes here and around the world. Solar panels were a logical next step.”
