Something shifts this week. You will feel it before you can name it.
The week opens on the First Quarter Moon — that half-lit, committed, forward-moving hinge where the lunar cycle asks you to stop exploring and start deciding. The Waxing Gibbous that follows builds steadily all week, growing brighter and more insistent with every passing night. And then, on Friday, the Sun crosses into Scorpio — and the entire quality of the season changes.
Scorpio does not ease you in. It does not offer Libra's graceful diplomacy or its careful consideration of all sides. Scorpio goes straight to the center of things. It wants to know what is real, what is hidden, what has been living in the depths that has not yet been brought into the light. After weeks of Libra season's beautiful, Venus-retrograde-colored questions about balance and reciprocity, Scorpio arrives like a hand reaching into the water and pulling up what has been resting on the bottom.
And Venus is still retrograde. Which means that what Scorpio surfaces this week in your emotional and relational life will not be comfortable. It will be true.
The Orionid meteor shower peaks on Tuesday and Wednesday nights — the Earth passing through the debris trail of Halley's Comet, sending streaks of ancient light across the October sky. Go outside and look up. Let the meteors remind you that some of the most beautiful things arrive fast, burn bright, and ask nothing of you except to witness them.
By Saturday the Moon is enormous and almost full, Scorpio season is in its first days, and something that has been building all week — in the sky, in you, in your most important relationships — is almost ready to be seen.
Cosmic Toolkit
Moon Phase: First Quarter (Sunday, October 18) → Waxing Gibbous (Monday–Saturday)
A pure building week under the most atmospheric sky of the year — Scorpio season opening, Venus retrograde deepening, and a Full Moon approaching just beyond the week's edge. The Waxing Gibbous this week carries unusual emotional intensity. Let it build. Don't try to release it early. What is gathering now needs to reach its full charge.
Herb of the Week: Mugwort
The herb of the thinning veil — and in Scorpio season, the veil is always thinning. Mugwort supports dream work, deep intuition, and the willingness to see what ordinarily stays hidden. Burn it, steep it as a tea, or tuck it beneath your pillow as Scorpio season begins on Friday. Let it open the channel between what is visible and what is not.
Crystal Ally: Labradorite
The stone of hidden depths and the magic that lives beneath the surface — labradorite is Scorpio season's perfect companion. Under Venus retrograde, it helps us see the layers of our relationships that ordinary light cannot reach. Hold it this week whenever the week's emotional intensity feels like too much. Let it remind you that depth is not danger. It is where the real things live.
Elemental Focus: Water + Fire
Scorpio's deep, still water arrives this week, and the Waxing Gibbous brings the fire of building momentum. Water reveals what fire illuminates. Let this week move between depth and drive — between the honest examination Scorpio demands and the forward momentum the building Moon provides. Both are needed. Neither cancels the other.
A Closer Look at the Week Ahead
Sunday, October 18 — First Quarter Moon
The week opens on the First Quarter and the invitation is immediate: commit. What have you been growing since the New Moon on October 10? What has Venus retrograde's testing revealed about the intention you planted — and what does it need from you now, in terms of genuine, honest action? The First Quarter does not reward hesitation. Choose your direction and walk it.
Monday, October 19
The Waxing Gibbous begins and the energy shifts into something richer and more urgent. Libra season is in its final days and there is a quality of gathering today — of collecting what the past weeks have revealed and beginning to understand what it means. The Orionid meteor shower is already active in the pre-dawn sky. Set your alarm early if you can. Ancient light is worth losing sleep for.
Tuesday, October 20 — Orionid Meteor Shower Peaks
The Orionids reach their peak tonight — best viewed after midnight, when the radiant point in Orion is high in the sky. Halley's Comet left this debris trail centuries ago, and tonight the Earth walks through it, lighting up the sky with streaks of ancient fire. Step outside. Look up. Under a Waxing Gibbous Moon and Libra's last days, the meteors arrive like tiny, blazing reminders that the universe is far larger and more extraordinary than any single week of ordinary life.
Wednesday, October 21
The Orionids continue and the Waxing Gibbous deepens. There is a quality of heightened perception today — the kind that arrives when the sky has been doing something extraordinary and the inner world has matched it. Notice what is becoming clearer about your relationships, your intentions, your direction. Venus retrograde is still asking her questions. Scorpio season is two days away. The answers are getting harder to avoid.
Thursday, October 22
The last full day of Libra season. The Moon is more than three-quarters full now and the emotional register of the week is rising. Libra season's final gift is this: one last invitation to approach what is difficult with grace, with the willingness to see all sides, with the diplomat's understanding that how you say a thing matters as much as what you say. Tomorrow, Scorpio will dispense with the diplomacy. Today, use it well.
Friday, October 23 — Scorpio Season Begins
The Sun crosses into Scorpio and everything changes. Not loudly — Scorpio's power is never loud. It is a deepening, a darkening, a sudden awareness that the water you have been standing in is much deeper than it appeared. Scorpio season asks the questions Libra season was too polite to ask directly: what am I truly feeling beneath what I am presenting? What is really happening in this relationship beneath the version of it I have been maintaining? What do I want — not diplomatically, not reasonably, but truly, in my bones?
Welcome to Scorpio season. Answer honestly.
Saturday, October 24
The first full day of Scorpio season, and the Moon is enormous in the sky — bright, nearly full, casting sharp shadows and pulling at everything tidal in you. Something has shifted since Sunday. The week has moved from the First Quarter's clear commitment through the Orionids' ancient fire through Libra's final grace into Scorpio's deep, searching water. You are not the same person who opened this week. Notice what is different. Trust it.
Relational Spellwork
The Scorpio Season Depth Dive
Scorpio season's first week, combined with Venus retrograde's ongoing audit, makes this one of the most potent times of the year for honest relational examination. Not the surface conversation — the one underneath it. This week, in your most important relationship, practice Scorpio's particular courage: the willingness to say what is actually true rather than what is comfortable, to ask what you actually want to know rather than what feels safe to ask. Scorpio season rewards this kind of bravery with the intimacy that only real honesty can build.
First Quarter Commitment Under Venus Retrograde (Sunday)
On Sunday evening, return to the Venus retrograde intention you set at the New Moon. In light of everything this week has brought — Scorpio season's arrival, Venus retrograde's ongoing questions, the Waxing Gibbous's building intensity — is your commitment still true? Refine it if needed. Deepen it if you can. The approaching Full Moon will illuminate whatever you are genuinely, honestly building. Make sure it is worth the light.
Orionid Witness Practice (Tuesday night)
Go outside on Tuesday night after midnight and watch for the Orionids. Bring someone you love if you can. There is something about standing together under a meteor shower that strips away the unnecessary and leaves only what is real — the cold air, the ancient light, the smallness and the bigness of being alive together under an October sky. Let the meteors do what Scorpio season is asking all month: burn away what is not essential and leave only what is true.
Scorpio season doesn't announce itself. It simply arrives — and suddenly everything is different. Welcome to the deep end.
