Old Port Fest Fun: Mexicali Magic on Moulton Street in Portland

Jun 13, 2016
Yesterday’s 2016 Old Port Festival was wildly fun and successful, with a steady stream of good-vibe revelers coming through to dig our groovy goods and chill out in our Festival Oasis yurt, created by the ultra-awesome Living Intent Yurt Company! The turnout was incredible, with many arriving right when we opened the yurt at noon to get decked out Ella Coose’s one-of-a-kind henna artwork! We want to send BIG thanks to Ella for her hard work and creative magic, and also to everyone who came out to get inked! We didn’t anticipate that the demand for henna tattoos would be quite so great, and were grateful for everyone’s patience as they waited in line. A long line so often means that people will be getting antsy or frustrated, and we were just amazed at the consistent positivity and calm energy that was emanating from that space–proving what we’ve always believed: that we have the best customers EVER! It was also wonderful to overhear a lot of people expressing that they felt it was worth the wait! After the 4 scheduled hours of Ella’s constant art-making, the line was still replenishing, so we passed out free henna tubes to anyone still waiting. If you were one of them, we would LOVE to see pics of your own henna art creations, on the Mexicali Blues Facebook or on instagram @MexicaliBlues! Beyond henna artistry, we also had guided meditations led by Suse (the manager of our Newcastle store), incredible teamwork from everyone working with us, and tons of sunshine daydream shopping fun! Though it thankfully didn’t rain, there were some serious blasts of gusty wind, with one big WooooOOooosh aligning so perfectly with Suse’s meditation instruction that several participants gasped, “did you plan that??” We can’t take credit for *that* but it definitely felt like there was some magic in the air that day! THANK YOU, EVERYONE for making it the Best Old Port Fest EVER! <3
If you missed the Fest, but would still love to share in the good vibe awesomeness of henna, meditation, and the Mexicali Oasis yurt, we’ll be setting it up again at each of our stores for one-day events this summer; stay tuned for details and dates!
