Maine Fun: Running of the Alewives in Damariscotta Mills

While world travel fuels our dreams and fills our hearts, we just LOVE life here in small-town Maine!  The Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder hosted its annual Running of the Alewives race in honor of the fish that travel up the fish ladder each Spring to spawn.  Wooden fish are decorated and personalized, and then loosed on the ladder to race for prizes and bragging rights.  This fun activity is a fundraiser for the Fish Ladder Restoration Project, which works to restore and improve the fish ladder so it can keep helping the alewives, as it has for the past 200 years!

We love the Fish Ladder and this event, so we contributed a Mexicali gift card as one of the prizes for the race champions.  Sally Mulligan won second place, so she gets to come have a fun day of shopping with us!  Congratulations, Sally!
