Winter Solstice & the Wild Wonders of the World 🏔

December 17-23, 2023

Our week transitions us through the Solstice with brighter and longer days to come in the northern hemisphere. We are peaking at the summit of the Tropic of Capricorn and returning north once more. What lies in store is steeped in achievement, sensuality, expression, and hope. There is never a dull moment in the circling skies, so there is rarely a dull moment on Earth. We must hold fast to our will to expand our potential and manifest our deepest and most honest hopes and visions. The work will not be done by anyone but us to get there.

Venus in Scorpio quincunx Chiron in Aries
Moon conjunct Saturn in Pisces

The effects of Venus’s unfamiliar yet poignant aspect to Chiron today highlights our incongruous journey of allowing relational distractions, emotional turbulence, and perhaps paranoid tendencies to get in the way of our efforts to master what we are passionate about and inspired by. It is challenging, as life often is, to find and make time that is free from external distractions that disrupt our capacity to focus on our passionate tasks at hand. Just when we think things are smooth and sorted out, something from the attics of our lives or someone else’s knocks on our door wanting to work that something out. We must learn to respect those needs, yet preserve our serenity and the sanctity of our own needs as we move forward the best we can.

Moon’s reunion with Saturn in Pisces brings this same theme into focus: boundaries related to what we cannot control, what we did not consciously create, or some delusional misalignment in the emotional arena. Stability relates to our sense of security, transparency, and communication. If any of these facets of our lives are wavering or less than ideal, we can expect cracks in the foundation our journey. Resurrecting or committing to a spiritual avenue to realign the practice of our life with the divine will help restore some balance and harmony, at least in the moments we give to that pursuit.

Mercury in Capricorn trine Jupiter in Taurus
Moon in Pisces trine Venus in Scorpio
Moon in Pisces square Mars in Sagittarius

If we can harken back to Thursday, December 7th, to glean some insight about recent career opportunities or risks, and any decisions made regarding our career, we can utilize this recurring aspect to reflect upon those decisions. Did we make the right choices? Can we make some valuable time to go deeper into analyzing where we stand with our career and what we want that to look like moving forward? Mercury has since stationed retrograde and is now revisiting Jupiter in this same aspect, so it is an important day to make time to reflect upon our career and how it is honoring our passions, inspirations, and of course our financial situation.

Moon’s trine to Venus in water signs can imbue a release of emotions relating to our deep inner space and the divine inspiration that space brings us. Does the mystical ebb and flow of life pervade our daily experience? Does it disrupt our grounded wherewithal to accomplish the more pragmatic necessities? Maybe we can glimpse some magic between the waves that crash on the sands of our shores.

Tensions or struggles that may seem unrelated to such mystical awareness can arise later in the day, possibly feeling like those waves crashing down upon us. If we can recognize these waves as inevitable rhythms that also ebb and flow through our lives, we might be able to notice what they too are teaching us. There are morsels of lessons everywhere we look if we are open to accepting this and having faith even in the pain and suffering we endure. If we look to the roots of whatever tensions may present themselves and dissect them for clues related to our struggles, we may cull some clarity and wisdom to apply to our voyage.

Moon conjunct Neptune in Pisces
First quarter Moon in Pisces
Moon in Pisces sextile Pluto in Capricorn

The Pisces Moon continues today with an amplified dose of etheric resonance. One that permeates our psyches with perhaps confusion, but also perhaps with divine guidance of a sort that may not be easy to recognize. It is a wonderful day to recognize the magnificence of life and how that plays out throughout our days, months, and years. Things may get jumbled up, lost, forgotten, or misinterpreted, but we must not push the river. These are the days the river is in charge of where we end up.

First quarter moons are a time to pause and assess the intentions we may have set on the New Moon. Are we following through with them? Are we veering off course into old habits or patterns again? If our intention was to hold a steady course, then maybe we assess if we are holding that tiller solid on our tack. Whatever the case, we should be exploring the endless options of potentialities and opportunities that have presented themselves to us. Our adherence to a path of evolutionary growth, dedication, and ambition helps set us up for the achievements we have our sights on.

*Mercury stations retrograde in Capricorn*
Moon conjunct Chiron in Aries

Today’s lone aspect provides a peek inside the Chiron-North Node conjunction in February. We feel the pressure of outside influences and personal distractions that slow our progress toward mastering our passions. The wounds inflicted upon us early in our lives can surface as reminders of why we seek to defy the odds that we believed for so long were stacked against us. Chiron’s influence teaches us that while we impart our wisdom upon others we are constantly gaining more wisdom and knowledge ourselves. There is also a notable element of humility involved in Chiron’s story. As we stumble through life, those missteps humble us and remind us of not just our imperfections and flaws, but of our mortality. Take courage that those humbling stumbles are teaching us very valuable lessons.

Venus in Scorpio opposite Uranus in Taurus
Moon in Aries trine Mars in Sagittariu
Mercury in Capricorn sextile Saturn in Pisces
*Winter Solstice at 10:29pm EST (Sun ingresses Capricorn)*
Moon in Taurus trine Sun in Capricorn

As the Sun seems to pause and return north on this Winter Solstice, there is a renewed vitality embedded in the virtually simultaneous Moon-Sun trine. A vitality that encourages we put our heads down and get to work on the practical necessities at hand. The breath of this renewal of light is like a hymn to our weary souls here in the northern hemisphere. The hope that sleeps between the past and the future may have the bouquet of jasmine and the hue of chartreuse, but our senses can divine how fragrant and beautiful what lies ahead can be. We may still need to wrestle with some angels, but our inner light glows and shows us the way.

The inner work involved in our deep relationships sometimes gets shaken up by unexpected events. The rattle and hum from these mishaps can threaten our sense of trust that we feel for others, but that work also teaches us more about ourselves and each other. How can we open our consciousness up a little bit wider to invite the benevolent potentials of more enlightened relationships? This may just be the right time to step out of our cozy boxes and see what else is possible, even inviting in the weird and wonderful!

We may feel like exploring what drives us toward our goals and aspirations today, too. Of course this may be an ongoing drive that seems to come and go, but today there is a peculiar sense of possibility we may not have felt for some time. The harmonious aspects between Moon-Mars and Mercury-Saturn can instill an exciting perspective while we sit quietly envisioning Sun’s transition back northward. Holding a clear and clean space with serenity and calm is called for on this ancient sacred day.

Moon conjunct Jupiter in Taurus
Sun conjunct Mercury in Capricorn

The titillating delights our senses provide to us on this long walk across life are impossible to convey, except perhaps through mediums that both require and use those senses to create and experience them. Today provides the space and time, if we choose, to manifest tangible, audible, digestible, visual, and emotional experiences and expressions that can lift and expand our perspectives into exploratory and revelatory dimensions we feel naturally compelled to seek. Quite simply, our senses can take us into realms we have been seeking and needing very much lately. Do not be afraid to create or experience another’s creations today.

These sensual potentials are enhanced by the Sun-Mercury interior conjunction (Cazimi), allowing our expressions to powerfully flow with such vitality and impact in whatever direction we aim them. We can be sure the near trine aspect of these four celestial bodies will only add to the capacity for manifestation and clear communication of those expressions. So, at the very least, be sure to make time to walk through a forest, stroll along a beach, swim in a body of water, summit an expansive peak, or create a work of art that embodies the wonders of the world in which we live.

Moon conjunct Uranus in Taurus
Moon in Taurus opposite Venus in Scorpio
Moon in Taurus sextile Neptune in Pisces

Our senses continue their titillating exaltation today with Moon continuing her transit through Taurus. There are surprises and unlikely scenarios presenting themselves, but our grounding capacity is strong, so we are equipped to handle whatever arises. The standards of our resources and financial positions may need to rise if we are to arrive where our pleasures would like us to. Perhaps we will discover how to improve our situation in ways we were not expecting. When Moon meets Uranus it is always wise to sharpen our eyes into keen sentinels for anything we have never seen, expected, or experienced before.

The aspects Moon continues to make throughout the day to Venus and Neptune help establish further fodder for our future fortune if we are willing to heed advice from others more knowledgeable than us. This advice may feel a little invasive to the privacy of our personal portfolio, but what we choose not to listen to will not help us, because we aren’t going to learn what we don’t want to know. If we can open our hearts incredibly wide and invite in all the beauty and benevolence possible, we just might begin to notice how abundant our lives begin to become.

Seething through our veins is a zest to experience the wild wonders of this world we live in. Sometimes that zest is muffled or silenced by the responsibilities of life, or as a friend might say: our heinous tasks. Whatever we can do to thwart any excess of responsibilities in favor of free time to explore the peaks and canyons across this planet and through our hearts and souls should be employed as much as possible, as long as it does not compromise our sense of security and serenity. May our muffling distractions and heinous tasks let up more than enough to explore the magic and poetry of being alive!
