Get crafty in a unique and eco-friendly way with our banana fiber yarn! This unique yarn is created from the trunks of banana trees in Nepal, through the outer layers of the bark being harvested and soaked in water to dissolve the chlorophyll so that only the cellulose fibers remain. These fibers are extruded into pulp which is then spun into yarn and hand-dyed in the vibrant colors you see here. The texture of banana yarn is similar to silk, and is often used in Nepal to make hand-knotted high-end rugs.
Our banana yarn is strong, lightweight, and biodegradable, with a varied thickness throughout a skein that lends itself wonderfully to artistic creations with a beautiful organic look. Because it has no stretch, this yarn is best manipulated with large-gauge knitting or crocheting needles and works best for projects with a loose weave.
