ASTROLOGY + ENERGY: July 20 New Moon in Cancer

ASTROLOGY + ENERGY: July 20 New Moon in Cancer

Monday marks the night of the Cancer new moon which will be opposite Saturn in the night sky. As we know, the new moon marks the beginning of a new cycle. We’ve all gone through so much in the past moon cycle and it is important to be born into this one with new or continued purpose. Stay focused on your goals whether you aim to make change or rest your being for the challenges ahead.

Saturn has the most impact on our shy celestial beauty this month because it is facing the moon  head on, as you can see in the chart above. You may experience limitations and restrictions keeping you from achieving your true goal. Don’t be fooled by your own internal monologue saying it can’t be achieved and remember that we are usually our own worst enemy when it comes to self doubt. Rise above that authoritative voice and seek the support you need.

We understand that the ebb and flow of not only your personal agenda but that of society can be draining. We’d like to revisit our reading from the last full moon and again emphasize the importance of taking care of you and yours. By doing this you can also help bring peace to those around you.

There are parts of this universe that can still be celebrated and we urge you to seek out those moments. A sunset by the lake or a quiet meditation can help you to focus on your thoughts and true desires. Investing your time in a project you can accomplish on your own might be just the confidence boost or drive you are looking for.

We will be supported by the fixed star Procyon this cycle for it can influence our ability to take action on thoughts that may have been swimming around our subconsciousness. Be wary though, if too much energy is focused from this star it can lead us to take action without a plan. Do not give into impulsive behavior under the new moon and instead wait for the evening glow to come back to our night sky.

Tune back in next month for insight into the August full moon!

ASTROLOGY + ENERGY: July Full Moon + Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn

ASTROLOGY + ENERGY: July Full Moon + Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn

The full moon rising in Capricorn on Sunday marks a partial lunar eclipse for our little world, which will be visible to the Americas and the Westernmost parts of Africa and Europe. While lunar eclipses are typically associated with revealing our shadow selves, an eclipse in the constellation Capricorn indicates a time for hope, happiness, and good fortune. It will also impact our ability to be more open-minded: remember that nothing is as it seems in the light of a lunar eclipse.

Like the last lunar eclipse we experienced, work-life balance will come into sharp focus. You may still be experiencing tension in this area—which wouldn’t be abnormal given the position of the stars! We hope you were able to heed our advice from last month, and took time to consider where your time and energy is best spent. Remember that self care is just as important right now to keep up your stamina, and taking time for yourself can help preserve your energy in the future. We highly recommend taking time to recharge before you burnout—for a quicker recovery.

At Mexicali, we have found a bit of extra time to get important tasks done by reorganizing our priorities. We’ve even found more time to make room for important conversations with our amazing team and long-time customers who have expressed their appreciation for our new in-store policies! In times like these, the little moments of appreciation and reflection go a long way, and we are forever grateful for the support of our Mexicali community.

This month’s lunar eclipse brings a few big cosmic players into the field. Mercury and Uranus are in the game, and will influence your communication for the better. Although Mercury is still in retrograde (which is generally perceived to have a negative impact on our communication), be comforted in knowing that this month’s planetary cycle won’t bring the same anxiety it usually does, in part due to the position of Uranus. Together, these two planets can influence powerful conversations meant to stimulate our psyche and help us tackle hard-to-learn truths.

You may also find that you are more open to having conversations with those previously considered a rival. If you find yourself in this position, remember that the universe is always on your side when it comes to personal growth, and that this lunar eclipse is prime time for resolving conflict and embracing new relationships.

      Don’t forget: kindness is key!

June 21st: ENERGY + ASTROLOGY: New Moon + Solar Eclipse in Cancer

June 21st: ENERGY + ASTROLOGY: New Moon + Solar Eclipse in Cancer

With a solar eclipse and new moon happening simultaneously this gives off more power and influence in the skies. If you take a look at the star chart below, you’ll see the Sun and Moon next to each other which is called “Sun conjunct Moon.” This is one of the most influential blends of powers in the sky, and draws focus on the personal areas of your life. What happens in the skies is reflected in your own life—you may find yourself focused on your personal relationships, and the important women in your life come into sharper focus. If there are past grievances to heal, now is the time to reach out. You may find that an old friend wants to make amends during this time. Be sure to respond with openness and without hatred in your heart, for no healing or learning can take place otherwise.

There’s no doubt there’s a sense of imbalance in our lives right now. The planets are encouraging us to focus on the importance of flexibility and our ability to adapt as humans. If you’re feeling unwell, taking time off of work to heal has the potential to cause backlash in your professional life; but additional responsibilities at work could mean that you won't be able to participate in the important moments that your friends and family want you to be part of. Finding time for both might be impossible, but learning to compromise in some areas could lend itself to be helpful. Pay attention to what is taking up your time, and take initiative to root out activities that encourage procrastination. Keep your priorities and responsibilities at the forefront of your agenda.

The new moon is the time of the month when the moon steps back to let the stars shine. Follow the moon’s lead with the enthusiasm of the fixed star Mekalinan, located on the left shoulder of the Charioteer in the Auriga Constellation, but do so without the impulse and recklessness that can come with this energy. It is important to remember themes from the lunar eclipse on June 5th to see how they continue to impact the energies provided with this new moon.

May 22: ASTROLOGY + ENERGY: New Moon in Gemini

May 22: ASTROLOGY + ENERGY: New Moon in Gemini

The new moon of May rises in Gemini and is trine Saturn this year. It brings a new beginning and a period of restructuring, building and growth. If there are loose ends to tie up, the energy is right for it in this lunar cycle. Before you get too far into rebuilding, make sure you have a solid plan and your tools in place. With Saturn in the picture, there’s an added aura of responsibility that can help advance your goals.

Intense and transient energies are in the air leading up to the new moon so we suggest you pause before reacting to inflammatory situations. Study your behavior and recognize where your feelings are coming from. This will help balance your more wild tendencies, something air signs can all appreciate.

Gemini has an abundant amount of jittery energy that compels people to socialize and break outside of their comfort bubble. Luckily we have some stabilizing energy from a trine with Saturn which is keeping us grounded. That free-spirit summer attitude we all usually feel around this time of year is going to be calmed by our friend Saturn, who has more pragmatic and patient tendencies. Saturn will help us contain our extravagant feelings or ideas and impulses to help us make a goal plan.

Mars is included in this trine and gives us the motivation to follow through with our goals. In terms of our relationships, Mars can also provide inflammatory energy that can wreak havoc if not monitored closely. Breathe before you respond to triggering questions or proposals. If you find yourself running hot, step back and cool down before engaging further.

With Venus retrograde in Gemini (ruled by Mercury) we urge you to be cautious and look closely into your desires. Find what you love and follow a plan to educate yourself on how to bring more of that wholesome energy into your life. Learning is supported during this new moon but there is danger in the cosmos with Neptune closely involved. Neptune’s ever-changing and tumultuous energy will have us questioning the information at hand, which can distract us from the truth and further disengage us from our determined path.

      Coming up:

We have a full moon lunar eclipse in Sagittarius on June 5th! Check back in to see what that means and know which planets are going retrograde.

Introducing The Magical Mexicali Community Garden

Introducing The Magical Mexicali Community Garden

Under the light of April’s super moon was an auspicious setting for the groundbreaking of the Mexicali Blues Community Garden. The dream was hatched up a number of moonrises ago in the Mexicali warehouse, initially inspired by the green thumbs of our talented staff who proudly care for and display an exotic assortment of flora throughout the offices and workspaces.

The plants of Mexicali Blues lead luxurious lives presided over by figures of Buddha and Ganesha, serenaded by great tunes and alimented by love, light, and fresh river air. With the health and happiness of this groovy greenery in mind, a seed was sown. We thought, why not create a collective celebration of community and cultivation and share seeds, stories and inspiration in the sunshine with our Mexicali staff? It could become a space where we could eat lunch together, play frisbee, plant seeds and sing songs. This seed was germinated amongst the vibrant products and colorful characters of Mexicali, and in due time it was to be planted in the earth.

Left: Chauncey glowing in the light of the full moon. Center: The happy office plants of Mexicali Blues. Right: Our view of the first Supermoon of the season from our roof, decked out with panels from Revision Solar!

The first step was to find the perfect location for a garden, and what better choice than on the Mexicali grounds looking out over the beautiful Damariscotta River? Keith, our web wizard, was gracious enough to offer up his adjacent yard as a site and, albeit in the chilliness of early Maine spring, the idea, the seed, started to sprout. Keith also happens to come from a long line of horse handlers, and donated mature local fertilizer from his family farm.  A few days later we found ourselves in the garden unloading a truckload of organic gold, removing square foot plots of sod, and establishing the framework for what was to come. We couldn’t think of a better time to start a labor of love than under the light of a rising super moon, especially when Venus was squared up with Mars.

Our sweet little seedlings getting ready to be planted in the community garden!

Two days later Maine offered us one of its famous surprises in the form of and April snow shower and the newly turned garden was obscured by seemingly never ending white sheets for the following few days. This was an opportune time to sow seeds in the comfort of our own homes and get some seedlings ready to transplant into the Mexicali garden come May. We’re excited to see what additions are brought to the proverbial table and hope for a cornucopia come harvest time!

What do you think we should plant in the Mexicali garden? Leave any tips for community gardening on our facebook page!

Rising on the ninth of this month, the Full Moon of February is also known as the Snow, Storm, or Hunger Moon. Up here in Maine that will make sense to a lot of us but these names go back further than we may realize.

The Native Americans of the North East referred to it by these names because of the harsh winters Maine is known for. Those storms would make it more difficult to hunt or gather food, thus naming it the Hunger Moon. It's no wonder we stock up our pantries before each storm. The timing of our recent and long awaited snow squall definitely has us looking at our star charts.

The Moon will be in Leo for the weekend and will provide ample energy and light, making it a great time act on instinct. But we warn you to be safe and take caution. There's an air of drama that tags along with this lunar phase which can lead to conflict. Use this energy as a catalyst to jump into new activities!

With Venus rising in Pisces it is a good time to nourish your relationships. If there is tension now is the time to address it in a respectful and nurturing manner. The goal is to seek harmony and balance.

Here's what every sign needs to know for this month's Snow Moon:

Aries- Venus is in your sign! Look for new relationships or take extra time to put extra love and attention into one you have. Don't be afraid to open up and jump in.

Taurus- Be adventurous! Whether it’s in love or if you’re looking at a list of goals you haven’t acted on yet. This is YOUR time!

Gemini- Recognition is coming for you! It’s clear that you’ve been working hard but don’t let it get to your head. Take time to settle in to your new routine and don’t splurge with your sudden success.

Cancer- Take this opportunity to change things up! Don’t let yourself get stuck in the same routine you’ve been in. It’s important to be in control of what YOU want.

Leo- If anyone can find guidance this month it’s you. Let the lunar energy guide you- listen to yourself and trust your instincts.

Virgo- Break down those rigid walls and introduce new healthy habits! Change your workout routine or start that drawing class you’ve been wanting to try.

Libra- Communication is key. Take those feelings of gratitude for your loved ones and let them know. This will help you feel more connected, even if there is distance.

Scorpio- It’s time for hygge! Be comfortable and use this energy and power to accomplish your goals.

Sagittarius- Does it feel like everything is in place? Use this to boost your confidence and take on a new opportunity.

Capricorn- Your strong-headedness is definitely at the forefront and the energy might even feel overwhelming. Roll with it but be cautious of how you affect others.

Aquarius- Don’t hold back because this is your time for fulfillment in your relationships. Find a friend in Leo- they will help you.

Pisces- Don’t get carried away. Your season is almost here and that’s giving you an electric energy source. Use it wisely and invest in yourself and experiences over possessions.
