A lifelong traveler, Carly Erskine has been traveling with her parents, Mexicali co-owners Pete and Kim, since she was just a baby. With 20-something years of experience traveling and a solid preference for backpacks over wheel-y suitcases, she’s gotten packing light down to an art, even when venturing to three countries with very different climates on one trip. Here’s what she always makes sure to bring when she’s traveling to India:
The cities we travel to on our buying trips are usually quite warm, but India is a conservative country, so Carly always packs lightweight yet modest loose-fitting clothing to stay comfy while remaining respectful of the local culture.
Fun accessories. Because Carly can’t be quite as creative with her outfits when modesty is the top concern, she likes to bring a bit of funky flair to her look with bold fashion earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.
A scarf is an absolute necessity! Worn as a shawl when nights get cool, as a headscarf when visiting temples and other places with stricter dress codes for women, and even as an impromptu face-mask against dust and pollution (SO useful when you’re in an auto rickshaw and stuck in traffic!).
Cribbage board. Some of the longest friendships we’ve made through our work are with our pals in India, and this fun little game is one Carly always looks forward to playing with friends both old and new!
While the other supplies in her pack may vary depending on how long she’ll be in the country or where else she’s traveling to, these items are always with her when she travels to India. Have you ever been to India? What would you consider an essential supply for making that trip?
