In January, the Mexicali Tribe focused on renewal. In February, we concentrated on community. Now, rejuvenated and reconnected, we are making March a month of mindfulness, and we want you to join us.
At Mexicali Blues, we think of mindfulness as being wholly in the present moment and accepting the sensations and emotions that moment presents us with. This means setting aside regrets about the past, anxieties about the future and the distractions all around us to experience what is happening right now. Not judging, not reacting, simply observing … and being.
Why? Because mindfulness can make wonderful things happen in our brains and our bodies! A daily dose of mindfulness helps us process emotions, solve problems and relieve stress. It sharpens focus, promotes better relationships and boosts self-esteem and self-awareness. For many of us, meditation brings us to that mindful place, but creating a mindful moment can be as simple as turning off your phone while you are having coffee with a friend to concentrate on the conversation or turning off the radio during your morning commute to be alone with your thoughts.
As we move through the magical month of March, join us as we carve out a space of quiet and clarity in our daily routine to be present for:
- The change in the light. Daylight Savings Time will begin soon and we can’t wait. How will our daily rhythms change as we “spring forward?” We want to be aware of the sun’s new patterns and the subtle ways they inspire us by being mindful of the later sunrises and sunsets, longer days and stronger, warmer light.
- The change in the seasons. In our home state of Maine, March is a month of tumultuous temperature changes—a churn of cold snaps and spring days, melting and mud. We hope mindfulness helps us to accept and appreciate the last flurries of snow and the first subtle signs of spring.
- The change in our work. The epic February sale is almost behind us (extended through 03/05!) and new and wonderful things are arriving daily from Thailand, Nepal, Guatemala and Bali. Store inventory is transitioning from fuzzy fleeces to lighter layers, the first hardy tourists will soon join our loyal locals, and we’re about to announce exciting new community service initiatives. We are choosing to be mindful in order to make the most of it.
