GETTING READY FOR THE HOLIDAY: RELAX AND ENJOY
For both traditional Thanksgiving gatherings or laid-back Friendsgiving get-togethers, the point is to hang out and have fun—and not just around the table for the big meal. Creating spaces where you and everyone you love can simply be in the moment together will make the holiday so much more magical, memorable and mellow.
Pile up the pillows and cushions. Scrounging up extra seating for your guests is always one of the hardest Thanksgiving hosting challenges. So soften up your approach and scatter floor cushions, pillows and poufs absolutely everywhere! They’re a portable and casual DIY way to encourage everyone to cozy up and chill when you’ve left the dining room.
Add to the enjoyment by stacking board games or family photo albums around the cushions and pillows. This will give your guests an easy way to start a conversation, spark some friendly competition, or share laughs and memories!
Max out on mood lighting. Glamour and glow get everyone in the mood to celebrate. Fire up the wood stove, scatter tea lights and string lights, and hang lanterns over your table or in your windows. In the early dark of a cold autumn evening, circles of light draw everyone in to talk late into the night.
If candles are part of your tabletop decor, use them to focus everyone on the moment you are all sharing. As you light each flame, thank a guest individually for being a part of the gathering, or ask guests what they are grateful for.
Make music all weekend long. The right music can turn a friendly meal into a festival of friendship. If you haven’t had time to create the perfect background mix, don’t worry! Stack a bunch of vinyl or CDs by the stereo and let your guests dance and play DJ. If you have musicians in your circle, encourage them to bring their instruments to the meal and have a concert—or better yet, a singalong—while everyone is here. Throw in some whimsical noisemakers so everyone can take part!
Thanksgiving is a great time to dig out your favorite college mix tapes or old family favorites and send everyone down memory lane!
We’re wishing everyone in the Mexicali Tribe safe travels, smooth preparations and fun-filled feasts with loved ones and friends! We’re also hoping you find time to fill out your wish lists for the Great Gratitude Giveaway. Don’t forget that drawings begin December 1! ENTER THE GIVEAWAY HERE.
