Carved Wooden Koi Fish

This detailed, smooth wooden carving is of the Koi fish. Many people confuse these with common carp, however the major difference is that these carp are domestic and ornamental varieties. This means they are kept for display as pets in water gardens and the like, and are not consumed as food. There are over 19 identified varieties of Koi, the majority being bred and raised within the country of Japan. The red and white "Kohaku" breed is the most commonly known world-wide. "Ghost koi" (with metallic fins) and "butterfly koi" (with long, flowing fins) are recent variations that have become quite popular. Since live Koi are somewhat difficult to produce a habitat for, this carving is a great substitute decoration to be used in the home or garden.
