What is Responsible Trade and Why Support Items that are a Result of it?
Mexicali Blues imports all of our items using responsible, best practices that are outlined by Trans Fair USA. Not only are we working to become fair trade certified, in the meantime we are working as though we were already. We want our customers to know that Fair Trade and Responsible Imports generate positive effects that impact the producers in the country of a product’s origin, all the way down to the consumer who clicks on a product page. Trans Fair USA provides the following guidelines to what Fair Trade does for the producer and the consumer:
• Fair price: Democratically organized groups receive a guaranteed minimum floor price and an additional premium for certified organic products.
• Fair labor conditions: Workers enjoy freedom of association, safe working conditions, and living wages. Forced child labor is strictly prohibited.
• Direct trade: With Fair Trade, importers purchase from Fair Trade producer groups as directly as possible, eliminating unnecessary middlemen and empowering groups to develop the business capacity necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
• Democratic and transparent organizations: Fair Trade groups decide democratically how to invest Fair Trade revenues.
• Community development: Fair Trade groups invest Fair Trade premiums in social and business development projects like scholarship programs, quality improvement trainings, and organic certification.
• Environmental sustainability: Harmful agrochemicals and GMOs are strictly prohibited in favor of environmentally sustainable farming methods that protect farmers’ health and preserve valuable ecosystems for future generations.
In short, by purchasing Fair Trade and Responsibly Imported items you are supporting the people and communities that produced them.
Economic and community-based sustainability are just some of the benefits that Fair Trade produces. It also supports cultures and subcultures to maintain and express their identities across boundaries and borders. Fair Trade keeps alive specialized arts and hand-made crafts that could be under threat to disappear in the wake of globalization and homogenization in the marketplace. By working together many Fair Trade companies and organizations have the ability to make a definite, positive impact on the world around us.
You can also think globally and act locally by purchasing items that are Fair Trade whenever possible, and by joining one of several initiatives to promote environmental and economic sustainability worldwide. For more information on Fair Trade globally and locally, please visit TransFair USA: The Fair Trade Certification Organization at www.transfairusa.org

Measurement Guide
Since much of our clothing is hand-made in countries with different methods of sizing, it is often important to note the measurements listed below each item. We have taken extra care to provide you with the most accurate measurements possible by measuring items ourselves before they are put up on our website.
Chest: measure around the widest part of your rib cage. (Not the widest part of your chest.)
Waist: the narrowest part of your natural waist. This is generally around the belly button.
